Ellis Gym, a symbol of Australia's rich boxing heritage, faced the challenge of modernising its brand image without compromising its rich history. The gym's legacy, closely associated with the iconic match between Lester Ellis and Barry Michaels, was an integral story to incorporate while resonating with a new generation of gym-goers.
The project presented us with a unique task that played to our strengths — transforming a gym steeped in history into a space that would captivate the modern audience, all while respecting its longstanding legacy. Ellis Gym came to us, unsure of their exact needs but certain they wanted change. We were given creative freedom within the parameters of the existing brand, affording us the chance to fully utilise our end-to-end design, print, and display services. This was an ideal opportunity to show how The Print Factory can provide a comprehensive solution, in this case with the inclusion of strategic visual merchandising, to revitalise a brand whilst maintaining its rich history.
At The Print Factory, we pride ourselves on our ability to collaborate and connect. We worked hand-in-hand with the Ellis Gym team to develop designs that would strike a chord with both the gym's history and a younger generation of gym-goers. Branded signage and large-format displays featuring high-resolution images of boxing legend Lester Ellis were integrated into the gym's interiors, offering a powerful tribute to its past.

By revitalising the gym's aesthetic through strategic visual merchandising recommendations, we helped Ellis Gym successfully resonate with both its historic supporters and a younger, more modern audience.
The Ellis Gym project showcases our versatility, understanding, and ability to bring a client's vision to life. In achieving the perfect balance between preserving history and embracing a modern appeal, we created a space that wholly encapsulates the Ellis Gym brand. Our strategic approach to design, print, and display, coupled with our extensive visual merchandising experience, enabled us to work in partnership with the Ellis Gym team. We not only modernised the gym's appearance but also enriched the customer experience. In doing so, we solidified the gym's status as an iconic brand in Melbourne's boxing community.
